While major flood waters have receded in Texas, scattered thunderstorms with the possibility of locally heavy rainfall are forecasted along the coast over the next couple of days, with the potential for flash flooding. The Sabine River in Deweyville is expected to remain in Minor flood status through Saturday, with ongoing road closures and areas of inaccessibility.
Red Cross Response to Hurricane Harvey
It’s been nearly four weeks since Hurricane Harvey devastated parts of Texas and Louisiana, and the American Red Cross continues to provide shelter, food, relief supplies and more to people in need. As we continue to provide food, shelter and comfort for those affected by Hurricane Harvey, the Red Cross is delivering financial assistance to people who need it most. Thanks to our generous donors, the Red Cross will provide $400 to qualified Texas households that were severely impacted by Harvey and need help taking care of emergency needs right now. You can learn more about the program here.
Overnight, more than 2,300 people stayed in 23 Red Cross and partner shelters across Texas. To date, there have been more than 403,000 overnight shelter stays for Hurricane Harvey.
More than 2,900 Red Cross disaster workers are on the ground in Texas and Louisiana, with more than 215 on the way. Together, they have helped to:
-Along with our partners, serve more than 2.5 million meals and snacks in Texas and Louisiana;
-Activate more than 170 emergency response vehicles to help deliver meals and relief supplies;
-Distribute $45 million in financial assistance to more than 100,000 qualified households who needed immediate help. This assistance has helped more than 365,000 people including more than 10,000 households headed by military veterans.
