Despite the Commission's zero‑tolerance approach to child labor in trade agreements, it is estimated, according to reports by UN agencies, that in the southern Katanga province, more than 40 000 children are working in hazardous conditions in cobalt mines, with inadequate safety equipment and for very little money. It is estimated that 20% of the mines in the DRC are small-scale and use mostly child workers. These children, aged between 3 and 17, have to work in appalling and dangerous conditions, usually barefoot. In 2014, the entire population of Gaza, which comprises 50% children, endured 55 days of bombardment from land, sea, and air, resulting in thousands of dead and injured civilians. In response to this crisis, we have initiated a field study revealing that thousands of children were suffering from severe stress and anxiety due to their direct exposure to violence. Recognizing the urgent need for mental health support, we collaborated with partners from the Gaza Community Mental Health Program (GCMHP) and the Center for Mind-Body Medicine (CMBM). Together, we implemented various interventions for the children and their families. These initiatives included group therapy, one-on-one therapy, medication support, summer camps, and other activities designed to aid in their recovery. In 2021, we established the Gaza Pediatric Mental Health Program Fund to bolster our ongoing efforts to alleviate the psychological trauma faced by children in Gaza. The hijab law has been enforced by the country’s “morality police” for over four decades, ever since the Islamic revolution, according to Euronews — and many people across Iran think it’s time for the law to be abolished, especially after Amini’s death. A 22-year-old woman, Masha Amini, was killed by morality police in Iran. In mid-September 2022, a 22-year-old Iranian-Kurdish woman named Masha Amini was arrested by the morality police — because she was not wearing a hijab — while visiting Iran’s capital Tehran with her family, as reported by The New York Times. The morality police detailed Amini, and while in their custody, authorities confirmed that she died, attributing her sudden death to a heart attack. However, CT scans of Amini’s body proved that she experienced a brain hemorrhage; additionally, eyewitness accounts, as well as footage and images of Amini after she was arrested, have led many to speculate that Iran’s morality police physically beat her while she was detained, causing her to die. There are more than 5,000 unaccompanied children in US Customs and Border Protection custody, according to documents obtained by CNN, up from 4,500 children days earlier.
