As the local Clean Air and Healthy Lungs leader, Breathe California of the Bay Area fights lung disease in all its forms and work with its communities to promote lung health. Lung disease is the third leading killer in the US, the first in deaths of infants, and affects one of eight Californians. Smoking-related diseases claim an estimated 419,000 American lives each year, and the number of people, especially children, with asthma is growing. Air pollution, tuberculosis and emerging challenges such as lung-related bioterrorism are other threats.
