Rohingya Refugee Crisis Response and Recovery Fund

About

The Rohingya population, a mostly Muslim ethnic minority from Myanmar's Rakhine state, have been systematically persecuted and attacked. Since August, over 615,000 Rohingya refugees have fled Myanmar for Bangladesh. In response to this humanitarian crisis, we established the Rohingya Refugee Relief Fund to support nonprofit organizations providing critical emergency aid like shelter materials, clean water, health clinics, and support for survivors of gender-based violence.

Care

CARE International is working with a local NGO partner to distribute food to families in need. They are supporting a health clinic assessing and treating children suffering from acute malnutrition. CARE is also helping with the coordination and management of refugee cams and developing programs to protect and support survivors of gender-based violence.

International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The IRC and partner Action Contre la Faim (ACF) will be opening four 24-hour malnutrition treatment centers, and providing additional health services as well as specialized protection services for women and children. The IRC will additionally imminently launch six "one stop shops" with ACF for life-saving services, a multisector package of critical assistance - including nutrition, violence against women and girls, child protection and health.

United States Fund for UNICEF

UNICEF-supported Child Friendly Spaces provide a protective environment that shields vulnerable children against violence, abuse and exploitation. 97 static and mobile spaces have so far been established and more than 300 adolescent groups in both camps and host communities perform a similar function. UNICEF and partners have provided more than 100,000 people with access to safe drinking water. UNICEF plans to reach up to 150,000 Rohingya children and 50,000 host community children of 4-14 years.

United States Association for UNHCR

UNHCR is working with the Bangladesh government and partners to respond to the massive humanitarian needs. By mid-October, UNHCR airlifted 700 metric tons of life-saving aid, including tents, plastic sheets, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen sets and jerry cans to Bangladesh. They are in the process of constructing a total of 8,000 latrines for the refugees. So far, UNHCR has installed nearly 500 latrines, 51 shallow tube wells and 8 deep tube wells to ensure access to drinkable water.
